Welcome to The Pelz Hebrew School

Goals for our Hebrew School

Our Goal is to create an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance where your children will learn to love and appreciate their Jewish heritage, and where they will become self-motivated in their Judaic learning experience.

We strive to instill in our students a strong pride in their Jewish Identity.  In order to foster this pride they need to develop an awareness of their Jewish identity and the role they will play in the future as a part of the Jewish People.

In addition, our children must have a solid Jewish education.  They need to be aware of the rich traditions, laws and customs of Jewish life so that they can be active members in the Jewish community.  This includes the Jewish holidays, Hebrew reading and writing, and becoming comfortable in the synagogue with the ability to follow the service in a prayer-book.

Most importantly, we are proud of the positive atmosphere and the genuine love our teachers have for the students. They teach with an innovative and creative style that causes the students to look forward to coming to Hebrew School each week!

Our curriculum has been designed to meet the changing developmental need of each child.  Activities are planned which emphasize the process as much as the product, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride.

Parental Involvement

Parents are welcome and encouraged to take an active role in their children’s lessons. Please spend some time each week to discuss and review with your child what he/she has learned. Please feel free to visit the school at any time. (There is always fresh brewed coffee available.)

We can often use volunteers for programs and special events. If you would like to be a volunteer, let us know, and we will try to accommodate your schedule.

Parent Teacher Communication

Communication with parents and teachers is very important.  Please feel free to contact any of our teachers to discuss the progress of your son/daughter at any time during the school year. We encourage you to set up a time during the year to meet personally with your child’s teacher. If there is ever a concern please call Dinie at (414) 403-9775.

Tzedakah

Please have your child bring a coin to Hebrew School each day for Tzedakah (charity).  We teach the students the importance of charity in Jewish life.

Emergencies & Other Policies

In the event of an emergency, we will make every effort to contact the parents immediately. It is possible however, that we may have to provide medical care before we can reach you.  It is imperative that your child’s forms are filled out completely each year.

Attendance

Consistent attendance is of utmost importance.  Each and every minute is filled with new learning experiences and students who are absent will be missing out on basic skills.   Parents are encouraged to inform us of unavoidable absences and we can help your child make up the missed work.

The school is open to all Jewish Children ages 4-13. We offer Bar and Bar Mitzvah lessons and there is a Teen class on Sunday mornings.

Class times are as follows:
Sundays 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM,  for all grade levels

Please be sure to bring your children to school on time and be prompt with pick up after school.  If you are running late please call (414) 403-9775 or (262) 242-2235

Aleph Champ Reading Program

We are proud of the Aleph Champ program that we use in our Hebrew reading curriculum. This program has proven to motivate the children to work and study their Hebrew reading lessons. A color-coded reading system where each child starts from the Aleph Bet, and progresses at their own pace. As they pass each level they receive a color and advance to the next level.  The goal is to be a black belt and be able to read 100 words a minute!

Conduct

We expect responsible behavior from all students.  In building a student community, we ask that children take responsibility for their actions and for insuring the safety of others.  If improper or irresponsible behavior occurs, parents will be notified.

Homework

We do not have official “homework”, but we encourage you to practice their Hebrew reading with them. We have seen that students who review their work at home, show a marked increase in their progress. There are practice sheets available. Encourage your child to “teach you” what he/she has learned in all their subjects.

Youth Minyan

All students are strongly encouraged to attend the weekly Youth Minyan on Shabbos (Saturday) mornings from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. The children learn how to participate in a service, sing along with the Chazzan and how to follow the service in a siddur. Prizes and trips are awarded to children who participate. There is a delicious lunch served following the service.

Tuition for Members of CAAC

There is no separate tuition fee for students whose families belong to Congregation Agudas Achim Chabad. There is a $40 book fee per child to help cover the cost of books and supplies.

Tution for Non-Members

For non-members, tuition is $400 for the first child $300 each additional child. (No child will be turned away because of lack of funds.)
