Tisha b'Av 2021 At CFJL

On Shabbos afternoon at 1 PM we can only learn those parts of Torah that deal with sadness such as mourning, and the destruction of the Holy Temple and the like. Therefore we do not learn Pirkei Avos after Mincha. Mincha will be right after the Kiddush.

Fast Begins on Saturday night at 8:27, up until that time one may eat meat and drink wine.

When Shabbos end at 9:19 we say Baruch Hamavdil Bein Kodesh L'chol and remove leather shoes. Maariv will be at 9:45 followed by Megillat Eicha and Kinos. We do not make Havdalah until Sunday night, however we do light a candle and make a Bracha (Borei Meorei Haesh) on Saturday night.

We sit on a low chair. On Sunday at 1 PM we may sit on a regular chair again.

Sunday morning: Negel Vasser- we wash fingers only.

Shachris at 8 AM. We do not wear Talis and Tefillin.

Mincha will start with the conclusion of Shachris with Talis and Tefillin at 7:30 for a Mincha start at 7:45. We put on Talis and Tefillin, say the entire Shema, the daily song, Ein Ke'ilokeinu, and daily psalms, after Mincha we put on  Rabbeinu Tam Tefillin.

The fast ends at 9:01, after Maariv we wash a proper Negel Vasser, then Sanctification of the moon and Havdalah. We do not use a candle or Besamim for Havdalah, just a cup of wine.

All mourning customs of the nine days continue until 1 Pm on Monday.

Have an easy and meaningful fast. May we merit the rebuilding of the Holy Temple speedily in our days.
